What are we proud of? 💡

Clearing a New Path™ and Clearing a New Path Podcast™ are products of Radar Media, located in Dorchester, Ontario on the traditional territory of the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee and Neutral peoples who once used this land as their traditional beaver hunting grounds.  As a settler here I’m committed to deepening understanding of Indigenous communities and reframing responsibilities to land and community. I am grateful to Mother Earth for the opportunity for love and connection and to the spirits of the Elders and the Medicine People who still walk the Earth.

JUNE 21, 2022

Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day in Canada! I wrote a bit more about my dilemma as it relates to flags, and today's importance.

I am nearing the end of the very first season of the podcast (still several episodes in the hop for you) and I couldn't be happier, having shared space with so many inspiring rural entrepreneurs across the country. I'm starting to plan for the next season and I could certainly use your support to help us continue. If you'd like to support the podcast and newsletter you can do that here and I'm looking for corporate sponsors too! Please email me at [email protected] if interested. Also, I'm planning another Rural Women Town Hall near the end of August. Stay tuned! If you missed our last one, YOUR VOICE MATTERS, you can listen to the replay here.

She's been studying under the guidance of Dr. Sheri Longboat and Dr. Silvia Sarapura.

On my mind this week:

1. National Indigenous Peoples Day - June 21 - A time for joy, a time for reflection

The CBC's UNRESERVED shared

2. Do you trust the news?

3. What are your thoughts on how nonprofits are run in your rural communities?

In 2022, I happen to think that most nonprofit organizations are just as capitalist, colonial and patriarchal as any for profit business. I've been waffling about whether or not to move a grassroots organization into the corporate non-profit realm, simply to be able to apply for grant funding opportunities, only offered to nonrprofits but the bureaucracy involved in that process does not make the process equal for all, it's steeped in privilege. Folks much smarter than me have dubbed something called the 'Nonprofit Industrial Complex' and this article validates some of my thoughts.

4.

Do you know what critical race theory is?

The New Blue Party in Ontario, that gained some momentum in Ontario's recent provincial election, made it clear in its party platform that the party is against critical race theory in schools. To me, this growing sentiment of intolerance is deeply disturbing. (See 'Reform education' bullet)This episode of Don't Call Me Resilient with host and producer Vinita Srivastava, talks about why we shouldn't be afraid of critical race theory. Vinita speaks with Dwayne Brown, PhD student in Education, York University, and Teresa Anne Fowler, Assistant Professor, Education, Concordia University of Edmonton.

5. Is the future really female?
