TWO new episodes today!šŸ”„

Clearing a New Pathā„¢ and Clearing a New Path Podcastā„¢ are products of Radar Media, located in Dorchester, Ontario on the traditional territory of the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee and Neutral peoples who once used this land as their traditional beaver hunting grounds. Ā As a settler here Iā€™m committed to deepening understanding of Indigenous communities and reframing responsibilities to land and community. I am grateful to Mother Earth for the opportunity for love and connection and to the spirits of the Elders and the Medicine People who still walk the Earth.

SUPPORTING RURAL 2SLGBTQAI+ FOLKS

from PEI and Kayla GrantĀ

*2SLGTBQIA+ is an acronym for Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and/or Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, and the plus reflects the countless affirmative ways in which people choose to self-identify.

The World Health Organization defines gender affirming care as a range of social, psychological, behavioral, and medical interventions ā€œdesigned to support and affirm an individualā€™s gender identityā€ when it conflicts with the gender they were assigned at birth. Treatments range from laser hair removal, male or female hormone therapy, chest or breast, otherwise known as ā€˜topā€™ surgery, ā€œbottomā€ surgery, which can transform and/or rebuild genitals, and other health care treatments.

ALSO THIS WEEK

Despite it being the Thanksgiving weekend, I hosted another open Zoom call, a space for folks to bring their rural concerns and talk about them with other rural folks across the country.Joining me this week were Leslie from Nelson, British Columbia and Carrie from Caledon, Ontario.Leslie is running in her local municipal election. A long time climate activist, she talked about development concerns, decisions being made and how the pandemic laid bare some of the glaring issues.Carrie runs a large co-operative organic eco-farm and is alarmed by the lack of input from the community at her local municipal council and the decisions at the provincial level that will result in development that may not be in the best interest of the community. We talked about the growing hatred we see, how women are mistreated in local government but that we're hopeful systems change is happening. The three of us are committed to change in our lifetime. It was a rich conversation and filled our cups for the long weekend.

Is there something similar happening in your community? DROP ME A LINE and let me know.
